Friday 12th July Newcastle

 So today we were docked in Mewcastle and we had decided to go on an adventure to Durham.

We got the metro from Meadow Well although people on the dockside had advised us not to as it was not a nice area but hey ho we survived!

Train into the city then walk to Central station and train to Durham. We then stopped for coffee and walked up the hill to the Cathedral. It is truly a magnificent building. Stunning in so many ways. Harry Potter was filmed in parts of the Cathedral.

We spent quite a while wandering around it and the people working there were informative. 

After that we walked around the town and the riverside before heading back to Newcastle. We walked to St James Park and around the town before we got the metro to Whitley Bay. It was cold and blowy but the tide was out so the beach was huge.

So we then walked back to the station to get the train back to Tynemouth and the shuttle to the ship. Unfortunately the trains were not running due a failure of a train….what a surprise. No taxis around so Keith asked a guy getting into his car if he wanted to earn £10…. He did not want any money but he took us to tynemouth where we got the shuttle back to the ship. I checked the trains and it took nearly two hours for them to be running properly again.

Exhausting but great day out today.
