We are still on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi as we have sailed round it away from it and then back again. The weather was supposed to be poor today but it was absolutely fine. The port is a container port but again locals very friendly. It was a two mile walk to town so we decided we would take a taxi instead and pay for an hour…he was changing us £10 for the hour. However he still only wanted £10 and we were out for over three hours. We went to the local market which was fabulous with all the fresh goods and the little chickens they paint for fun.
He then took us out of the city to a graveyard that is 800-900 years old and not many tourists will have ever been there. His name was Freddie and he spoke excellent English so we felt we had hit the jackpot.
When we got back to the port Keith gave him all the rupiah we had plus some dollars it probably didn’t amount to much more than £15/16 …great morning.
ABBA sail away tonight and as we sailed away lots and lots of people came to the dock to wave goodbye as they only get two or three ships a year.
Indonesia has been a very friendly and we have felt totally safe wherever we have walked.
