klawock

This was a new port for Seabourn today. The weather stayed kind and we left the ship to go on our hike and whilst in the van it poured with rain and they told us they had had 7 inches yesterday! Yikes!

Our hike was actually a stroll and the thing that made it worthwhile was our guide who was a Tinglet and shared stories of their way of life catching fish. He is allowed to catch 20 halibut per boat per day and similarly for salmon. There seemed to be a lot of suicides in the region, which in such a desolate area is probably understandable.

He explained his family totem pole which has his grandparents ashes in it. Very genuine guy who does not want to see his language and way of life disappear.

At the end of the walk we went to a pub to try Alaskan beer before heading back to the ship.
